'Grandparents / Special Person Day'  *NEW THIS YEAR*

The St. Andrew’s Reception children welcomed in their grandparents (or a special person) to join them for part of the morning in school. Our visitors had the chance to see the classrooms in action, and enjoyed crafts and snacks with the children.

The aim of the morning was for our Reception children to show love and appreciation to those who look after them so well.

Year 1's Amaze-morning

Amaze is a charity that gives information, advice and support to families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Brighton & Hove and Sussex.

A presentation was delivered to all of the Year 1 children at the start of the morning. The children then carried out some further workshop activities and crafting in class which acted as a memento for the work carried out.

Year 2's 'Off the Fence' Antifreeze

Project Antifreeze, run by Off the Fence, provide food and items as well as other practical support to the homeless in our city.

Interactive presentations and workshops took place throughout the morning in each classroom. The children spent the rest of the morning creating special gifts & messages for the homeless people in our local community.

Year 3's Together Co & Brighton Bricks

Together Co is a local charity which provides support and links for people in our city who may be experiencing loneliness, and Brighton Bricks aim to improve mental health and wellbeing through building Lego creations. They joined forces to work with Year 3 in order to spread the word about their important work.

The children took part in an interactive assembly and then enjoyed Lego workshops in their own classrooms. Each child created a special mosaic around the themes of loneliness, friendship and connection.

Year 4's Community Clean Up

Year 4 received a presentation from Brighton &Hove’s Environmental Improvements Volunteer Coordinator, all about the importance of keeping our beaches clean (including a safety briefing).

The rest of morning was spent walking down to the beach, completing a beach clean (using litter-pickers and protective gloves).

Year 5's Brighton Food Bank

Brighton Food Bank is an independent Christian food bank who provide food to families in need within our city.

Year 5 received a presentation about the importance of the work carried out by our local food bank, and the invaluable support they provide. The children then designed, organised and created ‘In the Bag’ recipe kits which were donated to families supported by the food bank.

Year 6's Wishing Well (Music for Health)   *NEW THIS YEAR*

Wishing Well is a Brighton-based charity which enriches healthcare settings with live music-making interactions, supporting wellbeing through a shared musical experience. We are delighted have formed this new partnership.

A member of the team visited Year 6 to explain their work and the importance of it. In order to support them, Year 6 hosted a musical performance for their  parents / carers, and asked them to donate a small amount in exchange for watching their children in action.
